Meet AJ Ware...

Every person has the potential to live an empowered, happy life. My practice offers therapy to children (5+), youth, young adults, families and couples.

It is normal that we face challenges- whether individual, relational, or systemic- that disconnect us from our potential. Today, young people are navigating their journey to maturity in a chaotic world, and it can feel overwhelming to manage. In my practice, I offer a safe place to explore the unique challenges of childhood, adolescence and young adulthood, to move toward healing, and the lives people envision for themselves.

I am queer and gender fluid, so my lived experience is inseparable from my social work practice with youth and families across spectra of gender and sexual identities. I am dedicated to the support of sexual identity and gender spectra as these are often issues that are accompanied by feelings of isolation and pain.

Additionally, I can support children, youth and young adults with common issues such as overwhelm and anxiety, feelings of depression, trauma, navigating your friendships and romantic relationships, improving your sexual wellbeing as well as parenting support, family therapy and couples therapy.

In my sessions, I use an eclectic, trauma-informed approaches:

Emotionally Focused Therapy

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy

Internal Family Systems

Attachment work

Anti-colonial and anti-racist practices

Mindfulness

I also bring elements of arts, nature, and play into my practice. I believe in the strength and tenacity of youth to be vulnerable, innovative, and dedicated to growth- as individuals and as members of a community.

Before I was a social worker, I spent twenty years working in the arts sector which shaped the energy and creativity with which I approach counseling (and life!). Outside of my practice I find balance in gardening, cycling, live music, and time spent with friends, my partner and stepkid.

Sessions are offered both in person and virtually and can be conducted in English.

I invite you to give yourself an opportunity to connect and discuss what you need and support!  Please feel free to book a 20 minute no fee consultation to explore if we are a good fit
